Castles and Shakespeare!

Coventry Cathedral
Woke up at 5 this morning to get on a bus headed for Stratford upon Avon. We went to a few places before we actually got to Stratford. Of course I slept on the bus because it is just not right to have to wake up so early in the morning. Our first stop was Coventry Cathedral. It was heavily bombed in WWII and so all that is left is the shell of the cathedral. It was pretty awesome. We weren’t there long. And I got a hornet in my hair. No stings, but eww!

Then we headed off to Kenilworth Castle. It was amazing! There were so many passageways and towers. It was incredible. We ran around it forever.  It was really green. Not as green as Ireland, but it made me want to go back and see all the green.

Then we headed off to Warwick Castle. Not as cool. It was very much a theme park/Renaissance fair. So not as authentic and full of school children. There were wax figures everywhere. Very creepy. But, they had a bird show, which was awesome because the birds flew right over our heads. They had eagles, a vulture, and an owl. We walked along the battlements too. So many stairs, but it was worth it for the view. We also watched a longbow show. Not as cool as the birds, but the guy was pretty funny. I also tried to get an ice cream bar. It had melted and then been refrozen. It was a messy disaster. A delicious disaster, but a mess. Sorry this post is so sporadic, by the way.

After Warwick we headed off to Stratford. It’s a small town, but I don’t think we’ll be too bored. They have a plethora of candy/fudge/gelato shops here. Once we got to Stratford we checked into our bed and breakfast. The lady who owns it is so nice. She’s wonderful. Then we all laid in bed and watched a British game show. It was a combination between a trivia game and Plinko essentially. We were very invested in it. It was a lot of fun to watch. Afterwards we headed off to dinner. It wasn’t anything special, but I did get a chocolate caramel shortbread for dessert and it was divine. Then we decided to stop and get gelato on our way to see Henry IV Part 1 (I had very yummy peach gelato).

So, we saw Henry IV Part 1. It was done by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The Royal Shakespeare Company! It was wonderful! One of the best plays I’ve seen so far. The stage was amazing! Everything moved effortlessly. The fight scenes were great. The acting was superb. It was simply amazing, plus we had pretty awesome seats.

Tomorrow: more Shakespeare sites!

Enjoy the pictures!
